MORY - Environmental practices
Our environmental practices
MORY » The Group » Our environmental practices
Conscientious of its role and convinced that business objectives and sustainable development are fully compatible, MORY has long incorporated environmental sound practices into company policy.
As early as 2005, MORY demonstrated its will to innovate in environmentally sound practices by establishing MORY Ecologistic , a pioneering service in Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) recycling logistics.
A source of innovation, this awareness drives MORY's growing commitment to innovative and alternative practices, particularly through its Research Department. We strive to act proactively and position ourselves as a major player in green industry.
This voluntary policy applies to three areas of action identified in the shipping and logistics business. Our environmental policy is demonstrated by:
- Our vehicles and fuels
- Our sites
- Our people
Our vehicles and fuels
Over the last 10 years, implementation of the following measures has enabled a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions generated by our fleet:
Fleet mainly equipped with next-generation clean vehicles:
- Average length of service within MORY network : 4 years
- 100% Euro IV standard or higher category clean vehicle fleet by 2010
Monitoring and control of vehicle fuel consumption:
- standard use of wind deflectors
preventing generation of 55,000 tons of CO2 by the Group in 2008 - standard use of automatic gearboxes on tractor trailers
preventing generation of 30,000 tons of CO2 by the Group in 2008 - tire re-treading operations
preventing generation of 20,000 tons of CO2 by the Group in 2008 - preventive maintenance by vehicle manufacturers and leasing companies
Shipping logistics designed to continuously optimize flow management:
- integrated, hub-based network shortening distances traveled
- optimized loading rate enabling use of trucks at full capacity
- use of double-deck transport vehicles (motorcyles, paper, paint, etc.)
Our sites
Reducing our ecological footprint makes a difference not only on the road, but also at our sites, where many actions can be taken:
Replacement of gas-operated forklifts with electrically powered machinery:
- Reduction in dust and environmental pollution as well as CO2 emissions
preventing generation of 655 tons of CO2 by the Group in 2008
Warehouse construction and renovation:
- Application of French HQE standards in the construction of new warehouses (solar panels, wood and concrete, recyclable materials, etc.)
- Renovation of older buildings within the framework of the environmental quality charter
Energy conservation policy:
- Energy-saving lighting controls
- Desk positioning maximizing natural light
Focus on waste disposal and treatment:
- Waste sorting and recycling handled by specialist companies
- Rainwaters recovery and recycling
- Use of cardboard compactors
- Pallet sorting and reuse
Our people
The shipping and logistics sector is above all a people business.
Conscientious that our collective actions have an impact on our world, we are shaping tomorrow's responsible transport network:
Training in environmentally sound driving:
- Implementation of a one-on-one driver training program to drive down fleet emissions, leading to lowered fuel consumption, enhanced road safety and occupational safety for employees
Paper reduction policy:
- Paperless invoices and shipping records
equivalent of 40 tons of paper, 680 trees, 52,000 kWh and 1,760 m3 of water saved annually - Awareness-raising efforts for responsible, environmentally counscious consumption
Optimized consumption practices:
- Business travel rationalization: carpooling and strong encouragement of rail travel and videoconferencing
A Research Department conscientious of sustainable development issues:
- Customer shipping flow mutualization
- Studies on the use of green vehicles (hybrid engines, electrically powered, etc.)
- Carbon assessment included in sales proposals
